Alumni Connections: Building for the Future

Mount Michael Benedictine has always been more than just a place for academic achievement—it's a community where lifelong connections are forged. For decades, the alumni network has stood as a testament to the enduring values of brotherhood, faith, and excellence that define the Mount Michael experience. In this blog, I will outline the benefits of being a Mount Michael alumni, career paths chosen by alumni, and my personal experience as an alumni.

The obvious benefit of being an alumni of Mount Michael is the self-pride and satisfaction you carry. Mount Michael being one of the best boarding schools in the entire Midwest comes with a certain amount of accomplishment once you graduate. Graduating from high school might just be any normal thing in the development of ones life, but for the Mount Michael man, it means so much more. Being able to carry yourself through your adult life with the lessons and experience learned from Mount Michael make you all the more distinguished than your other counter parts.

Another benefit of being an alumni from Mount Michael is that you have secured a family and home for the rest of your life. From the moment you enter the school doors in your freshman year to walking across the stage during graduation, and all the moments after, Mount Michael is the one constant in your life. No matter what life throws your way, you can always rely on Mount Michael to be a warming comfort for yourself. Throughout the entire year, Mount Michael is always open to alumni that want to come back to campus for visits. The school encourages alumni to come back to campus for sporting events, fundraisers, spiritual celebrations, and more. It not only enriches the lives of the students currently enrolled in Mount Michael, but also for the teachers and monks that taught those alumni.

The career paths chosen by alumni from Mount Michael shows how useful the education they received is. Many men that went through Mount Michael have excelled in the highest echelon of their field. Whether they chose to become doctors, lawyers, entrepreneurs, or clergymen, you will find a Mount Michael alumni wherever you go. Majority of Mount Michael men will attend some of the best colleges in the nation once they are done with their time in high school. Schools like Stanford, Notre Dame, Harvard, Michigan, and Columbia are just a couple of the great schools frequently visited by alumni. It is through the intense education that they received during their time in Mount Michael that prepared them for the life in college.

My personal experience as an alumni from Mount Michael has been a great experience. Whenever I come home for the holidays I am sure to make some visits up on campus. There is something so special about being on campus that pulls me back every time I come home.

During Christmas break, I be sure to mark some basketball games on my calendar because I love cheering on the same teams I played for when in high school. Also during my holiday breaks, I try and get as many guys from my class together to enjoy a meal and update everyone on our semesters. It is so nice and rewarding to have everyone together because those guys mean so much to me. It is a true brotherhood when we can hangout even in our busy lives. The alumni association makes sure to hold alumni events throughout the year to get guys back together again. I have played in the golf tournament every year since I graduated along with the basketball tournament held over Christmas break. It is so much fun to see everyone again having a good time. It makes it worthwhile to call yourself an alumni for these exact moments.

I frequently make stops at the abbey to say hello to all the monks and make sure to socialize with them. I enjoy taking part in morning mass with them along with afternoon prayer because the community means so much to me. They love to hear how college is going and I love to hear everything about Mount Michael.
